It would actually be $900 in just parts and then labor after that. So do I have to take it to HD or will the tuner tune itself after riding it?
there is no 900 hd intake for standard sportsters.
Order the air cleaner you want via part number from an hd discount site like boardtracker or surdyke. You don't HAVE to tune. The bike is not goint to switch up its mix unless you modify the tune. You can install the a/c yourself. To can buy a tuner if you want. Power vision or foolpak3. You will still be WEL under 1000.

So I ended up getting the Screaming Eagle air breather kit and the cover for it. And the screaming eagle smart tune PRO tuning module. Hopefully I made good decisions on this purchase.

It wont do any thing for you. Harley does not sell a tuner that will go out side of EPA regs. So you get no performance gains from it. Power vision all the way.

So since you boght the Smart Tune Pro I am assuming that you also have the Street Tuner correct?
If so, after you recalibrate the ECM for the Street Tuner and then install the Smart Tune Pro and O2 Sensors, you're good to go. With the Smart Tune Pro you don't need a dyno, just go ride!
Jtrentham do yourself a favor and cancel the order before it gets processed and shipped out. Unfortunately HD Street Tuner and/or the Smart Tune Pro are crapola. And as cvaria and apache snow stated their pure nonsense and you will gain NO performance benefits.
Forget the Dreaming Eagle parts, talk to DK customs (a site sponsor), they can tell you exactly what you need and set you up with an air cleaner that actually improves performance and routes the blow by away from the engine plus a programer.
They have excellent "stage one" information on their web page that explains everything.
little late on this one but +1 on the DK Customs, Dawn at DK hooked me up on a 587 outlaw AC and a dyna jet power vision tuner already set up for my bike all ready had aftermarket slip ons from Freedom.Plug and play.
cancel the whole order. And get dk customs air cleaner. And efi tuners from fuelmoto. Powervision , thundermax etc. I guess for 900$ you will get power vision with target tune and dk customs 636v air filter. I myself have se street tuner and se air filter. I have swapped se air filter for dk air filter. And se street tuner sucks.
