I aslo comute 60 miles each day (actually 56...Round Rock to South Austin). And I uauslly put atleast 200 miles of leasurly driving per week. I ride in all weather. If things get to bad I pull into a gas station and wait it out.

That's really the whole reason I bought a bike again. My commute is a 60-mile round-trip, too. Best of all, I can go right up 395, which parallels the I-15 where I am, but has almost no traffic.

I have a 39 mi commute. South Austin to Far North Austin. Mostly semi-crowded freeway. Bought my '03 Sporty for weekend riding only, as I haven't been on a bike in 20 yrs, and haven't ridden in city traffic in about 30.

Well $3.00 gas changed that pretty damn quick. I'm still a rain weenie, but any day that doesn't look like rain, I'm riding! It's a great way to start the day, and an even better way to unwind. 21-23 MPG in the car, 43-46 MPG on the bike...you do the math!

...is a lot more fun than by big old electrical service van. It was a little slickery out on the roads this morning, though. Makes you really aware ofthe conditions. Still better than driving the pig!
I'm not riding mine to work until I can either get the county to put some sort of device in to secure the bike or I can get permission to park it across the street in front of the Jail with theprivate bikes belonging to the Sheriff's at the Jail. So far, no response from the county...sigh
Have you considered buying a lock and chain? You may be able to leave it wrapped around a light pole or other immovable object and tie up to it in the morning. Just don't cover the electrical access panel on the pole; us electrician types don't like that at all. We would have to go get coffee or something.

Really isn't any way to do that. I'd be blocking the sidewalks and the Meter Reader types wouldn't like that. Hehehe. I'm asking them to put an EyeHook in the wall, so I can chain the bike to the wall in my paid for parking space. However, I see a Million Dollar Feasibility Study coming...

My 883xl IS the "Family Car". (Got rid of my Ford Escort to get it.) Just as handy, more fun, better economy and when I take time to clean the bug-smear off of it- it gets looks. Owner satisfaction and pride is important.

Yep. Daily commute for me. Only time I won't take the scooter out is if it is pouring rain. I'll still go if it's threatening or if just stopped.

Doin the daily myself as well. It's my only means of transport. Rain or shine I ride. It's only about four miles each way for me. The only thing I don't like is having to carry rain gear down here in SE Florida during the summer because of the pm showers.

I work 4 blocks from home, but take the Sporty everyday. Takes up less room in the lumberyard and gets more people talking. Make new friends all the time with that thing.

Other than that, Mondays are the only day I use the El Camino. Bring back my dirty uniforms and pick up clean ones for the week ahead.
