I love my hot rod Sportster by Hammer. Its just a pleasure riding it. Its reliable and never gives me any trouble. There is hardly any vibration and is smooth through out the RPM range. Its right at 110 HP. I thought that would be enough but every now and again I have thoughts of Hammer BFHs, 600 cams and 130 HP. If it wasn't for my recent health problems I would go for it. I guess I need to let well enough alone and enjoy what I have. I will say Hammer is one of the best Sportster performance companies out there. Aaron's knowledge in all things Sportster is just amazing. They are great to work with and will help you even when you screw up something. I cant say enough good things about them. They continually experiment and work to improve their products and squeeze the last HP out of them. Of course there are other companies and different ways to skin a cat but Hammer is at the top in my opinion.

I agree completely with Apache Snow, Hammer's kit is really nice. I installed the basic conversion on my '04 and I love it, it has completely transformed my bike. Plus, the process of installing and figuring out the mistakes I made were a lot of fun and helped me learn a lot about my bike.

would still recommend a powervision tuner over the se. It will be more useful down the line and comes with the improved stock 1200 stage 1 map (30003-10 is stage 1 1200)
haha you seem to get it, no one else does. I bought her the 883 superlow with the intention of converting it to a 1200 when she was ready, she’s already whining she can’t keep up when I’m taking off lol. So I guess it’s time already, that didn’t take long. I flat out asked her if she wanted a hot rod or just like a stock 1200 and she said just a stock 1200. She took my friends nightster for a spin and really liked it, she liked the gearing better and how easily it cruises at 70mph. The 883 is screamin a little, and I think it’s just gonna wear her out after a long day. Honestly I’d rather just forget the 1200 it and get her a dyna but she really likes the size and looks of the superlow, it’s kinda girly lookin with her little accessories she’s picked for it and stuff it fits her really well, but now she’s got her endorsement and wants to road trip on it. That’s why I’m looking at an SE 1200 kit. Using stock parts if we’re on the road and something fails or leaks or whatever, any HD dealer should be able to get it goin again.

Theres nothing on my bike that a dealer cant work on or fix though they will never get the chance as I do all my own work so its gets done right. Enjoy your 1200. I'm sure she will like it.

I do all of my own work too I was more referring to parts availability on the road. That's the advantage to staying all Harley, If I was building a sportster for me, it would definitely get all Hammer stuff and would be a hot rod. That's not what SHE wants though. She just wants it to be like a stock 1200. I was just saying one advantage to the SE kit is that its just basically a factory stock 1200 top end, and thus if I have a problem with any of it on the road a dealer should have the parts on hand to repair it and get us back going. Maybe I'm being too much of a worry wart about that though I dunno I was just weighing pros and cons.

dealers don't stock hammer parts.. that's an advantage of not going off the reservation, most mcdealers have the standard 1200 parts or can get them from the local "stash house". drag your hammered bike to a dealer and the fail train will leave the station. dealer monkies will be destroying your ride in no time. trade offs

folks mean well and are right for the most part..hammer dan and crew are great and put out great stuff... but, a stock 1200 is a trooper. i understand where you are coming from. been my stance for years. that may be changing, lol.

the HD kit is fine, i installed the same one years ago, ignoring all the hammer stuff too. honestly it's really just that clutch grenade ring issue you want to nip in the bu*t since you'll be in there anyway.

the bad:
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...endations.html

if you want to keep it all hd, you can just remove the grenade ring during the upgrade and substitute in 2 steels and a friction plate or and after market kit. that's safe. dealer can easily sub in a clutch pack later in a pinch. you just don't want it blowing up on your manager out on the road. it could shred the primary up pretty bad.

that ought to hold her till she meets a softail. good luck. boardtracker will have it to you in no time. your local dealer MAY match the price if you ask but, boardtracker is not tax.
