Looks are a crucial part of the equation. I understand an XR1200 is in the Sportster line, but it doesn't appeal to me at all. I now know that Harley discontinued the standard 883 some time back in favor of lows, superlows, irons, and customs, all of which look like the bike I want but don't perform like it. It seems that 2009 was the last year they made the one that drives/rides like I prefer: for lack of a better term, the Standard. So I'll be buying used.

The problem I had was to think that new Sportsters were like older ones. They're not. I just regret I can't buy new.

Now, if someone can point me to an actual full listing of specs for a 2008 or 2009 883 standard, I would be really thankful. Searching for this is incredibly difficult, because all the customs, irons, Ns, Ts, Ls, etc., cover up the standard in the search listings. It's just the nature of google searches.

Thanks!

Replacing the footpegs with these Floorboards gives a greatly increased lean angle. There's not a Sporty I've ridden that I don't drag the pegs on. But with these floorboards, I believe I run out of tire before I would scrape them. I've leaned as much as I am comfortable (actually more) and have not been able to scrape.

Also, they are MUCH more stable and comfortable than pegs...in essence giving the benefit of mids and forwards for foot placement.

If you are buying used, find a nice 1991-1994. 1994 would be the pick of the litter, but all those years are great. Simple electrics, no rubbermount engine, or bloated looks.
