Default Is this normal?

I notice oil residue on the cylinder head mainly around the exhaust outlet area. Everywhere else is clean. Is this normal?

It's not normal, but it's fairly common. Looks like you need a new rocker box gasket.

Make life easier on yourself and get one of these Rocker Box Wrenches that fit in tight areas.
Motion Pro makes the nicest one: https://www.motionpro.com/product/08-0220

Can be ordered at any bike parts dealer or from Ebay... There are a couple US sellers on ebay that ship quickly.

is it an upper or lower rocker
box leak? if it’s lower make sure you don’t bend the push rods when putting the rockers back on. and you don’t need a special
rocker wrench. remove the gas tank and get the job done.

You are right. Can be done without.
I didn't want to remove the tank if I didn't have to when I did that job.

That's why I said:

I would recommend reading the service manual and have the minimal tools onhand. Torque wrench comes to mind.

You could simply clean your bike with some suitable degreaser and see how long it takes to reappear. I suspect that will take some time.

How many miles on the bike? I think 25,000 mils (40,000 kms) is typically when they start to leak.

My 2006 1200 Classic had basically the same "oil pattern but not as heavy as your pics" when I bought it about 1000 miles ago. I wiped it off, and it has yet to re-appear. I think it might have been road grime or something like that. I'm not saying yours isn't a leak, but I don't think mine was. If it is a leak on my bike, I'll wipe it off every 1000+ miles until it gets to be more prevalent and then replace what needs replacing. I'm at a little over 13,000 miles now.
