I have a new 2007 XL883 Low. No mods other than I had them addhighway pegs. Are what I have considered "regular", versus mid or forward controls? Or is what I have the "mid" ? I am thinking even though I am short - 5 foot 3-1/2 inches, I would like "forward" controls, but then I hear about "mid" controls and thought maybe THAT'S what would be good. I'm concerned forward controls might be too far out. Can someone enlighten me on the difference please? Thanks.
Looking at a stock 1200 low on Harley's website, you would have the mid controls as stock. Forward controls would be mounted upwhere you have your highway pegs mounted.
I'm 5'9 and I have the foward controls. They are really easy for me to reach, in fact I wish I could move them even further foward as I find myself feeling a little cramped for space sometimes. I could not imagine having mid controls.
I'm sorry if this sounds a little harsh. But I don't understand how someone can buy a sportster and not know that the Custom model comes with the forward controls, the others do not unless changed out.

The easiest way to answer you question as to whether forwards would work for you would be to suggest you go back to the dealer and sit on a C model. Then you will know if it fits.
Mid controls aren't comfortable to me...I started on a 1200C with forwards...tried to ride my sis's 100th 883 hugger....no dice. My elbows were bent almost 90* and my knees were almost higher than my waist! lol...and I'm only 5'9'.
Just my opinion, but forwards are the way to go. I actually want to stretch mine a bit.
