I actually like the wind, and over the past 35+ years I've never used a windshield on a bike (or a helmet with face shield either).
The Softail I purchased last Fall does have a detachable windshield, which I have used from time to time, but out on the open highway I still prefer to ride "in the wind"...
Im spoiled-for years I had a wind shield then i got the harley boy did i miss it so now i have a small one it works just fine to keep the road crap off my cheeks so Im all for it. My 2 cents
After years of riding without one I finally gave in to the weenie look and bought a Q/D for longer highway rides. I was suprised how much it reduced rider fatigue not to mention the bugs in my teeth.
About 2 weeks ago,I put 500+ hiway miles on in 1 day.No wind sheild, only a half helmit and a neopreem mask (for bad weather). It rained and hailed for most of the trip.
I am with ya thomas. took a couple hundred mile ride on country roads yesterday w/o windshield. But, if interstate is involed..... windshield comes on. Mostly for fatigue, however, found that tires from vehicles in the same direction throw up the most peculiar items.
Rode with a friend of mine the other night for about 70 miles got home an hour or so after dark he was covered in bug guts just the top of my helmet had some thanks to my windshield. Don't think I'd ride without mine, I mean he was plastered with crap red, green, yellow & black chunks of bugs.
