Default 2007 1200 Performance question

Ok so have had my '07 for a whole week now. It came with a Screaming Eagle intake, that looks stock on the outside as far as size. Do not know anything else about it.

My question is, is this like a stage 1 intake? I ask because I am thinking of getting a set of stock take off mufflers and modifying them to flow freer. I want to keep my stock ones in case I don't like the change. With the fuel injection, is there anything I would need to do to still have it run right? I don't want straight pipes as I don't want it THAT loud, and have heard you will lose some low end power.

Hopefully this is in the right forum.

power vision and purchase a decent exhaust, maybe some slip ons in your case.

Well money is an issue, thus why I would mod a take off stock set. I know if this were a carb'ed bike I would have to rejet and tune, but am wondering if the FI would adjust on it's own, with a mild opening of the exhaust?

I punched a single hole through each of my [stock] mufflers using this:

I too wanted a freer flow. The bike still runs fine without a tuner.

What made me think of this was a video of guys taking out the core from stock exhausts, thus the straight pipe I mentioned. I only got a brief glimpse of the core, but my thought was to cut out the core, open about half the perferations in the core and weld it back in, with about 5-6 holes drilled around the current opening.

Little more sound but still back pressure for low end power. Not sure if I would use as exotic tools as you did though. LOL

Like this one?
I wouldn't call these "mild" openings and I suspect you might end up needing a tuner.

Wink

As we can see above some owners are able to make mods to their bikes and feel it rides fine - twas ever thus. I've owned Harleys for 50 years and some modified ones seem to run OK, while others are a bag of nails - unfortunately it isn't an exact science! While money is an issue leave it alone. Spend a little time reading up on making mods, then when you can afford to do so make your upgrade and do it well.
