Larry, I'm sorry that HDForums has failed you. Please come over to www.xlforum.net where we will help you without any of this bullshit. They moved your thread from the welcome section to the Sportster section without bothering to clear the generic post counting welcomes.
This thread has been a bunch of ******** post padding themselves saying hello without bothering to help. When I asked the mods to clear this thread and allow the one that you posted after this debacle which had real answers, it turns out all they did is remove the one that had real answers. That is unacceptable. You shouldn't have to wade through post after post of "welcome!" for real answers. If that's all they have to say they can shut the hell up.
So congratulations HDF. You've successfully made it clear that you value post counts and page numbers over real, actual, useful information. You've been **** for a while, but it has never been more clear than now. I stuck around for years to help the occasional poster that was in need, but if anyone wonders why you can't get real answers on this board...well here's your answer.
I fully expect this to be nuked not long after this goes live so it has been nice knowing you. You really wanna learn about bikes or Harleys, get the hell off this forum and go talk to the guy with his garage lights on after midnight or the one staring at a basketcase at 2 o'clock on a saturday. They'll be immensely more helpful than the trash that now runs this board.
Edit1: Thank you apache snow. I recommend to you, for Sportsters, please support xlforum.net because they actually care about content and the bikes. Unlike HDForums, who is all about the money as they obviously don't care to actually prioritize useful information.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I can't even find my original post on this thread, but it wasn't a "hello" but actually addressed the question. I just said the frame needed some minor mods, but did not know exactly as you do.
Happy Holidays!
John
