VSS P0501 & P0502 Confusing speedometer issue
Starting a new thread as this particular issue i'm facing doesn't seem to have been addressed before.
I'm currently riding a 2012 883 Iron. A month or so ago my speedometer starting maxing out at around 20-30mph while going freeway speeds. After some time scouring through these forums I decided to clean my VSS sensor. I pulled it out and it looked clean (no residue or metal flakes). So that led me to purchasing a new sensor since I figured my sensor had gone bad since it wasn't dirty. I replace the sensor and take her for a ride. The speedometer is working again!
About a week and half (200miles later) I go for a ride and realize my speedometer is completely staying at zero now. It's not my speedometer since it was working for a bit after I replaced the sensor nor is it the wiring ( I think ) for the same reason. What else can it be.
A few outliers that may or may not help with giving us a lead as to what the problem could be:
- The speedometer jumps up to 10mphs when I hit a bump (almost always) or downshift (only sometimes)
- I'm now seeing both the VSS P0501/P0502 codes when running my diagnostics (it's a brand new sensor)
- I'm not sure about this but I think I might've hit a fairly large bump and the issue started happening again.
I appreciate all the advice and suggestions!
Best,
JayR

If u not inclined to testing with a multimeter, then jus have the dealer look at it..Plus they have all the tools. Good luck
