The battery is hooked up corectly and I even check polarity in case something crazy was going on.

A little more info. I found out before I got to it, a battery charger was hooked up, and may have been left on while the bike was running. The neg battery terminal looks like it may have gotten hot. I myself did this to a softail once. On that one the tssp melted. Any chance this could be the same issue? This bike still runs fine.

Yes. I never leave the battery tender or charger connected if I am turning the ignition on or even starting the engine ; not good for your battery in anyway. New battery I think for you perhaps, or check with a mate’s good battery first of same rating/power. Once these tiny batteries get messed with in the slightest they can give all sorts of grieve.
