Hi , I've just ridden 120 miles in pouring rain on my 2004 Roadster . A lot of the journey was really slow because of visibility and crosswinds. When I got to my destination I thought the idle was slow and uneven as if I had just started up but had taken the enrichener off too early . Could it just be that it isn't getting to operating temperature because it's cold and wet ? I'm in Scotland by the way . Any thoughts ?
Check & see if your air filter is drenched, that would restrict air flow especially at idle.
That's a possibility that I have considered . Trouble is there's not a lot I can do about it . Looks like it's going to rain all day tomorrow too . I reckon I'll just stay put for a day . There's no fun in riding in rain .
No, riding in the rain sucks. I try to avoid it in my old age. In my younger days I have left home in a bad rain storm. I rode 150 miles in rain so hard I could hardly see cars in front of me. I had no rain suit. You can only get so wet and after that it doesn't matter. I have a really good rain suit now but still don't like riding in a bad rain. Gets too slippery. Good luck with the bike. Wish I could help..
I have ridden in a lot of heavy rain,I still have the stock ham can air cleaner.I have never had any trouble with water getting inside. If you don't have the stock air cleaner you might try getting one for the rain rides.I have a 2003.
Now that I'm on the he coast and the sun is shining I have had time for a proper look at the bike without being attacked by biting insects. And it's good news ! The front plug cap had shaken loose . Pushed it back on and all is back to normal . Happy days .
No, still wasn't running right so I pulled the plugs . At first I thought they were melted but luckily there were just heavy build ups of light coloured deposit. I carefully cleaned it all off with a wire brush and a nail file ( borrowed ) and now both pipes are the same heat . I'm not riding anywhere until tomorrow but I'm pretty confident this has fixed it. I did a lot of slow running and stopping and starting on the way up here due to traffic plus the rain and the wind and I don't think this has been good for the plugs .
