Has anybody come across clutch that self adjust? I have a 2009 883 custom. I replaced a broken clutch cable at the same time I changed the gear oil. from that time on the clutch will adjust it self. I must down shift hard to prevent the clutch from dragging at a stop(at this time clutch lever has excessive play). At other times the clutch is extremely tight with no adjustment left on the clutch lever and will slips on hard acceleration. Any suggestions?

Install a new clutch , something is worn out or broken or both .
Yes I agree with # 2.
Yet, first, I would suggest checking the cable routing....maybe it is binding.
Second, make sure the nut at the derby and the adjustor in the middle of the cable are tight/ secured
Third, redo the clutch adjustment...follow the service manual and FWIW I would use OEM HD Formula gear oil.
As you redo look for broken or worn parts....don't forget to look at the hand lever connection too.
Lastly, hard to tell from internet, maybe the clutch basket (used OEM) or the discs & springs (new aftermarket) have a manufacturing issue or damage. Unsure if I would go so far as removing the new clutch and starting 100% over.
So again, redo the adjustment and look for binding first.

There is more to clutch adjustment than the cable, get a manual and carefully adjust the clutch properly.
Thank you all for taking your time to assist in diagnosing this problem I have. I have tried everything that has been mentioned but replacing the clutch Assembly. Thats next. I will you informed of the outcome.
Thanks to all

I have to say that my Harley is the only bike I've ever had where you can cure a slipping clutch by correctly readjusting the actuator mechanism . On all other bikes a slipping clutch can only be cured by new friction plates and sometimes steel plates as well . Mine was slipping a while ago but now I can change up mid way through an aggressive overtaking manoeuvre and rip the throttle open again without any worries . Obviously it won't last forever .
