I've looked through the entire Chassis section of the 2013 service manual, can't find it. Can anyone tell me what this fastener is, and what it's for? And for my own sanity, where I can find it in the service manual?
I have a flanged bolt in that hole on my 2017 but with everything in place I cannot determine if it is holding something inside the frame. It is not holding anything to the side of the frame.

Hey @Andy from Sandy thanks for looking. It certainly does look like screw #1. Especially considering the screw on the other side (oil tank side) is angled in a similar way. I'll try to confirm this today. My fear now is that angled inner bracket (#18 in the image) has moved a bit, and once I get the screw, I won't be able to get it in without taking apart the whole oil tank.
The thread you can see in the hole is hopefully that of the oil tank bracket (assuming I have got it right). With the tank in place and the other screw firmly in place maybe the bracket is unable to move.
Just to confirm there is the same screw on the other side of the frame.

The threaded holes that are causing you concern are where the wiring loom should be secured to the frame by means of the curved plastic sleeve . Like this . On the right I have a bolt which also supports the oil tank and on the other side what appears to be just a push in plastic panel fastener. Looks like someone has just ditched the plastic sleeves on your bike and not plugged the hole or replaced the bolt . They are a little unsightly I suppose . Hope this puts your mind at rest .
Thanks guys, yeah it's the oil tank bracket. Local HD dealership had the fastener I needed. I'll be fastening the fastener tonight when I'm home from work.
