clear timing plug
My friend own a Sportster 1200 and wants to check the timing with a strobe.
We do not have a clear timing plug and don't find one in our town, Arad (Romania).
Could you please tell me if it is possible to check the timing w/o using the clear timing plug ? Just remove the OEM plug and let the hole open, or put a glass window in front of the hole...
Thank you in advance

I prefer to static time. With Ultima style and points you can set the timing without the motor running.
Another option on the Shovelhead is putting a scratch in the primary on the rotor where the piston is tdc.

The key is to have an adjustable timing light.
I did mine like hoginedgewood suggested. Through the inspection cover.
