Nightster start but wont stay running.
I created an account here to ask for help with '08 nightster. It ran fine with no problems since I got it 2 years ago. Everything is stock except vance and hines pipes and fuel pack. Everything is in fairly good condition. When Hurricane dorian came around I had to leave it outside for a day in a bit of rain, nothing I havent done before; and when I tried to start it the day after, it started strong, ran for 3 or 4 seconds, then started sputtering and died. I tried a few times and every time it does this. After a few times I noticed unburnt gas dripping out of one of the exhaust pipes.
I have spent the last 3 days checking everything I can do at home and trying to figure out what it is. Thus far I have checked, cleaned, or replaced:
Gas
Oil
Air filter
IAC
Air intake valve
Fuel pump
Fuel pressure regulator
Fuel injectors
Electrical terminals/connections
Fuses
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
It is not throwing up any codes at all. The hurricane ended up missing us so I dont think its related to this, nothing physical happened to the bike. Im baffled, but im not a pro so I must be overlooking something. I am also pretty much a broke student, so I am really determined to fix this myself if possible. Thanks for your ideas guys.
Cheers,
JH
or leave it on run after it dies the next time and try again....it wont start if ya do
can bypass the sensor by grounding the green wire IIRC
something simple to check, good luck
