I think it is great decision to do it yourself.
+1 you have a service manual.
My two cent comments
1 - Hammer seems to have good rep you can always call them for guidance if you run into difficulty.
2 - Keep it clean - that's good advice from our other co-member.
3 - Buy the correct tools if you don't have them.
4 - Ring gap position is important as mentioned above.
5 - Tuning may be fun LOL.
I'd look forward to your follow up and any tricks, issues etc you ran into once completed.
FWIW I am envious of your 1275!

FWIW, here's a few pics of my "pre assembled piston-in-jug that Hammer did for me
as well as some other stuff I got from them
(CNC ported 1200 heads, brass oil gear, chopped case, etc)

Sweet. Thanks everyone. Yea I opted for the preassemby as well, should make it much easier to not have to deal with that portion of it. You chop your cam cover yourself? Looks good. I did mine myself a couple months ago.

Yea tuning should be fun. I have the FP3 and Hammer sent me the tables to plugin

Thanks! Yea I was going to hold off but the rep told me they were running a sale a couple months ago and nabbed 15% off!

Also bought some black lower rocker covers that are on the 1200s and some RSD upper rocker covers. Going to powdercoat my pushrod covers and tappets as well.
