Default 1998 sportster 1200S help with next proformance mod

Hi everyone I have a few questions I hope someone can answer . My bike is a 1998 sportster 1200s (which I hope can get to stage 3 in Proformance). I have installed a S&S tear drop air cleaner and changed the exhaust to a set of Bassani Radial Sweepers is that stage 1 complete or do I need to take it to dealer and get it tuned ?.. and wat is the next things I need to complete stage 2. Is it jus the cams that get changed and wat ones do you guys recommend

Cheers

First off, welcome to the forum! Nice having a couple Kiwi's on here; there a few running around. My mom was from Auckland, so I always have a soft spot for NZ. Still have a bunches of cousins there.

When changing pipes and a/c, a carb rejetting is usually in order for best performance. How does the bike run now vs. what it ran like before you swapped out the a/vc & pipes? Other members here know far more about tuning and stage upgrades than I do, so hopefully they'll chime in.

Regarding stage 2, it's usually cams but which ones is a loaded question, especially considering you want to go to stage 3. You're about to go down the expensive rabbit hole. If it were me, I would clearly define in my mind what I want the bike to do once finished. And then I'd contact a very reputable supplier to help. Hammer Performance gets huge positives ratings around here. I've not dealt with them but they'd be the first people I would contact if I were in your shoes.

Good luck and I hope you stick around!

Carbs aren't very complicated. If you know what jet size you need, I'd try it. If you don't have a factory service manual you should getting one first. Some YouTube videos are always good preparation as well.

Awesome bike Man!
My first Harley was a brand new 1998 XL1200S.
I was running a mikuni carb, cams and straight pipes.

Good luck getting it running just right!
