Aloha I have a 2002 883 with Kevin carb overflow was pouring gas out so I took it apart and cleaned the carb and everything else and put a new needle valve in. There was a good amount of dirt in the bowl which I also cleaned out. The floats were dry and had no fuel in them. I ran some gas through the carb before putting it back together and now it still pours out the over flow.
What else should I check replace ????
Mahalo for the help
Did you make sure the needle valve is the same length as the old one? There are two types. My rebuild kit had the wrong one so I had to re-use the old one, not a problem so far.
Did you check the needle seat for a "booger" keeping the needle from a good seal?
I assume you checked float height, so that's probably not an issue.
When this happens it is often caused by tiny flake of dirt that is lurking just behind the float valve seat . When you remove and invert the carb to clean and inspect it the dirt falls back down the fuel feed . But when you put it all together and put it back on the bike the fuel flushes the dirt particle back into the valve seat and the needle can't shut off the fuel . I have encountered this scenario a few times over the years and it's very frustrating but the only cure is to have the carb off again , remove the float needle and blast some carb cleaner up through the valve seat .
I checked the needle verses the old one and they looked the same. I cleaned everything up and ran some gas through the card before putting it all back together. Not sure why its leaking I didnt check the float level but there was no gas in the floats I checked that. There was a lot of sediment in the float bowl.
not easy to see whats going on in the tank. I just had the bike apart to replace one of the heads. So I had it pretty well stripped down. Never had a problem with the carb before this.
