This is my first post and just wanted to say hello, and that I think I've decided on the S&S Carb over the Mikuni for my Sportster 1200.
I'm looking at getting the whole kit with the air cleaner also, I was wondering if my stock cables will work on the new carb or if I have to order new ones. I'm hearing conflicting stories.
I'd appreciate any helpful tips, especially on which jets to use, I'm dying to put on my new Vance and Hines Straight Shots that have been sitting here in my room screaming at me to throw 'em on! Well, I'm sure I'll be back looking for someone to bail my *ss out. Thought I'd introduce myself and say hello
Well, at first I was just going to get the Vance and Hines Jet Kit and an aftermarket air intake, but I figured for a little extra money, I can get a new carb. This is my first bike, so I'm pretty much at the mercy of what people tell me and what I learn online about Harley's. I also have a set of Vance and Hines Straight shots that are sitting in my living office.
Well, just finished installing my Vance and Hines Straight Shots...omfg it sounds so awesome!! I'm going to start the installation of the S&S Super E Carb, but I'm wondering if I need to buy new throttle cables. The instructions says I do, but the store I bought the carb says, I don't need to, I was wondering if anyone has ever installed the S&S Carb with stock cables.
I was also wondering if anyone has anything I sould look out for...this will be my first carb install on my bike
I was wondering if I should put any loc-tite on the bolts for the S&S intake manifold....I got them off from the CV one, there doesn't look like there's anything on them, but I can't be sure, so I was just wondering
you can put on loc tight if you want. and i put on the same carb on an 883 (1996 model) and had no problems with the cables. but every bike is different. good luck.
I just got in...idle cable is too short and looks like the throttle cable might be a bit long, not sure, but I couldn't even get close to putting the carb on with the idle cable being too short Damn, I was atleast hoping to try to get it started...guess I'll be waiting for some cables now[:@]
