Unknown Noise: rear brake dragging?
My '07 1200 Custom has a weird noise every so often....mostly during/after a long ride.
It sounds like the rear brake is dragging and making a "wurring" noise.
This happens at very low speeds. It's not quite like the sound of "slight brake dragging" but more of a "wurr".
The "wurr" is not like a wheel bearing "wurr...wurr...wurr", it's more like a 'harmonic' wurr...if that makes sense....
This only happens after I've been on the bike for more than an hour of riding time or so....and of course does not happen all the time.
I'vegot ~1,700 miles on the bike and it's probably happened 3 times total....
What do yaa think?

It's your belt still breaking in. By 2000 it should get better... My 07 1200C did the same thing. Took it to the dealer thinking it was the breaks and it wasn't...
I hear the same noise on my 07 nightster. I like to kill the engine late at night while coasting into my driveway so as not to wake the neighbors, with the engine dead and coasting, I can hear the brake pucks dragging on the rotor. It is normal for the pads to lightly drag, you would hear it on a car if you were close enough to the brakes.
I hear the same noise on all my motorcycles...but the Harley is the loudest of all. I think it is that withmost bikesyou have a chain whirling and drowning out the brake drag noise whereas the Harley has a nice quite belt. You also have to remember Motorcycles use high metallic pads that are noisier then automotive pads.

If the brake were dragging when you get back from a ride the disc would be red hot. Try riding for a few miles but don't use the back brake and check that out.
If the noise comes as you slow down but then goes away as you speed up check the primary chain tension when the bike is cold although I believe but not tried there is a method to set the tension with the engine running.

Check to see if the belt is rubbing on the front pulley cover. The belt will move 'sideways' slightly when you let off the throttle. Look down to see the movement. Caution: Don't run into anything whilst looking!
