I have a 2007 superglide. 2500 miles. I notice a noise when slowing down to stop. It is coming from the back wheel and sounds like brake pads rubbing (errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) but does not go away when i apply the brakes. As I slow down to about 10 mph it does change a bit (errrrrrrrr errr errr errr errr) like an uneven or out of balance wheel rubbing the brake pads on a bicycle. The sound is still there when I pull in the clutch and coast or turn off the engine and coast. I know I am crazy anyway, but my passenger also verified the noise.
An local, independent, American Motorcycle Institute-certified mechanic who specializes in harleys, listened to it and said it was brake noise. However, it seems to me it would stop when i apply the brakes.
I have exactly the same noise in both mine and my wife's 2007 Super Glides. I left one bike at the dealer's to be checked, and the first time they said the belt tension was too tight and that they adjusted it. After I picked it up, I still heard the noise. I left it again, and they came back and said nothing was wrong and that it was just a noise. Hmmm. It seems to me that I hear the noise in both bikes after they are warmed up on the highway. Not sure what else to do at this point, although I am taking my other bike in for service soon and will have it checked.
have you had the dealer check the tension on the belt? they may have sniugged it up too tight on the 1000 mile check, you also want to have your rear disc checked to see if it isn't warped. last place to look would be under the fender to see if the harness or wiresaren't rubbing on top of the rear tire. ride safe.
