Default 03 sportster with 03 fat boy front end.

I have 16” apes on my “Fatster 1200” and I want to run a windscreen for longer rides. My bars are pretty far forward and I don’t want to change them. I read about a guy who trimmed his windscreen to clear his bars. Has anybody done this?

I have modified windshields over the years, for various reasons. The challenge is identifying precisely where to cut! Measure twice (or even more often, to be certain) and cut once. Better to not cut off enough, rather than to overdo things on the first cut. I have always stuck a suitable adhesive tape on the shield, on which to mark where I want to cut, then followed the markings. I've done this over many years and still use hand tools, a fret-saw plus files and a sanding block. Something to take care with is that the plastics used on shields can heat up quickly and 'grab' your cutting tool, so take great care at all times, to avoid problems or even damage to the shield. Cut slowly and carefully! I've never used any sort of power tool on my shields.
