just finished the first office commute after flashing the stock sportster map. I have a set of generic slipons installed with quiet baffles and noticed a better throttle response than stock.
now is it likely to get better with autotune or should I leave it alone ?
also other sporty owners with fp3 - does your fp3 live on the bike or on and off?
if on the bike where did you put it up ?
I have tucked it between the battery cover and stuff behind it.

You can try autotune and see how it does. Just remember when doing autotune it will run rough until bike reaches operating temperature then you should see cell population. If you do autotune and you dont like it you can always just download map again. I have a Ultra and i leave my Fp3 hooked up all the time so i can view sensor data from time to time. If its not in the way on your Sporty then i see no reason why you couldnt leave it hooked up all the time but it really comes down to personal choice.
One more thing if your bike is under warranty remember to redownload the stock map and remove fp3 before taking bike into be serviced. Dont give HD any reason to screw u out of bikes warranty

Auto tune is for when the map your using doesn't quite match up with your bike,
for example, my pipes are not in the choices, so I picked the closest match, then did autotune on that map.
if you need to auto tune, try to get as much green as you can before you learn the data cause once you learn the data your map starts over so its hard to know exactly what you haven't learned yet from the previous run(s).
mine lives on 24/7, got a phone mount so I can watch the data, had it tucked in like you but then
I took the plug off the battery bar and cut the tape back so I could run it underneath and then zip tie the fp3 to the back frame

What year is your bike? I have a 2017 which should cover 2014 to 2017 and maybe even later but there is a space between the battery and ECM. I tucked my FP3 in there.

The engine could run rough all the time the FP3 is in autotune mode as some of the things in the EFI system that makes the engine run smoothly are turned off for autotune.
If you haven't read the instructions, once you have completed as much as you want to you then need to "finish" to build the new map and then flash it to the ECM.

2018 model.
I am going to use the fp3 as a systems readout. I read and re read the instructions and several posts on the forum. The plan is to stave off the auto tune till my hf filter arrives.
as such I like the way this canned map feels over stock.
The FP3 tune for a stock bike richens up the mixture some. I applied the "stock" map to my bike before changing any hardware and like you the change was very noticeable.
Had I not purchased parts as a kit and just had the FP3 I think I would of been happy to leave it at that.

You be putting ideas in my head ! How much is the difference in a stage 1 and just fp3 really ?
