I'm looking to throw a 180 on the back of my 2019 48. I've read the 180 tire threads, but am looking to find something thats not a spoked rim.
I found companies that widden rims so I wouldn't have to get a new front rim to match a new rear rim, but that seems a little sketch to me.
Ive also seen people throwing a 170 on the stock rim, and although people say its ok, I don't have %100 confidence on putting that on my rear tire. (feedback on this would definitely be appreciated)
Since a lot of those threads seem to be slightly dated I'd figured I'd start something new to see if anyone has figured any other way to do this mod.
Also if replacing the rear rim, what exactly would one have to look for in a rim since different bikes require different things....I'm a novice if you can't tell.
Look into a SuperLow rear cast wheel, which is 17" diameter and 4.5" wide IIRC. I have a 160/70 on a same size wheel (Deuce) in my old Glide, that is actually 167mm wide. It will certainly be more suitable for a 170 than a 3" wide rim. Bear in mind that wide tyres are also low profile and require ever wider rims. While a 170/60 calls for a 4.5-5.00" wide rim, a 180 calls for a 5.50-6.00". I'm quoting for Avons, but other brands may vary.

Did this end of March and have put on 2000 miles with no bad effects. Tire is a 170 x 16 Shinko 777. Personally, I wouldn't waste the money and time because the rim is 3.0 so the bigger tire can't spread out to its regular width. Instead it's squished into that narrow rim thereby making the tire taller but not wider. Have parked next to a stocker and really cant see any difference. Not a waste for me since I needed a new tire anyway but unless I get the wheel widened will go back to an appropriate stocker 150. I really like the stock wheels and no way am I gonna spend a couple o grand to get wider wheels that I wouldn't like as much. Have two emails out today to the two wheel widening companies I could find online. Will let you know how that turns out. Don't usually ride superfast but often do 80 on freeways here with no ill effect.
