Default 2014 iron 883 speed sensor

Good afternoon,
The speed sensor on my 2014 iron 883 needs to be replaced (speedo doesn't work and blinkers do not turn off automatically. ) It seems the speed sensor on my bike is located at the rear of the engine and there about a 2 inch space to get it off, making it impossible to get to it without removing stuff. Harley told me that it would cost $300.00 to replace because the 883 2014 requires removing several parts to get to the sensor. I checked you tube, this forum, and it seems there is no answer. I hope someone can help me.
Ride safe and Thank you

You need a Harley Davidson Service Manual if you want to DIY.

thanks. I wanted to know generally what needs to be removed. I’m not asking how to do it, I just want to know what will be involved. Also, since there isn’t anyone that can answer my query, I ordered the service manual. I just want a general clue as to what needs to be removed ie-exhaust removal, rear tire removal, battery area.

thanks

😊 thank you

You don't have to remove anything except the senser itself man. I was in same boat. The is a video on YouTube that will show you exactly how to do it without removing all the **** I was told just like you. Watch 2 wheel Rocco's video. He will walk you through the entire thing. Do not cut the wires. He does it in maybe an hour or less. So figure 2 hours worst case scenario. He even replies back if you have questions in a pretty fast time. The video is there I stumbled onto it by random chance. All of his videos are really really good man.
If you try it without his video , I would have removed both headers rear break master cylinder sprocket cover oil tank hose and maybe could get to it. Don't forget there is an O-ring down in there that seals it up....

Does your bike have the security system? If it does you need to disarm it before pulling the main fuse.

The 2017 FSM has just 3 steps to remove the VSS:
1. Remove main fuse.
2. Unplug connector.
3. Remove screw and carefully remove VSS and O-ring.

I can see on my bike to make things real easy to get the sensor out you would have to remove the rear exhaust pipe to remove the belt pulley cover. Then drain the engine oil and remove the pipes that go to the oil tank.
