I took my wife's '20 Iron 883 for a spin the other day and noticed that her rear brake was making a moaning sound when in use and the bike was vibrating too. I snapped this pic and it's not the best but here's what I see, The edge of the disc is discolored metallic blue and pink and so is the center of the disc, looks like it got hot as **** at some point. I also see what I can only describe as waves on the disc face where the pads contact.
The bike has just over 500 miles on it. I can see meat on both the inner and outer pads but the inner pad looks like it's in two pieces where the outer is clearly one solid piece.
Any thoughts?
Forgot the pic.

Many brake pads have a groove in them, rotor will wear flat with time, dont waste time worrying. Ride it.
25% of your braking comes from the rear, you still have plenty up front and a warranty.
The bike is under warranty. Don't mess, get the dealer to sort it.
Pads have a pretty thick casting backing plate as you know, they shouldn't break.
If as you say it has got over-heated somehow then it might need a new disc and maybe the caliper is faulty as well.
Yeah, it's like going to go to the dealer for warranty work...at this point, it might be too risky to take it in since it might be snowing by the time it's done.
The noise is not normal, nor is the vibrations when the pedal is pressed. If it were my bike i probably wouldn't worry as much but with the Mrs. on it, it needs to be 100%.
I have the same problem. Its going back again for the third time for them to fix. First time was to clean and check at around 1700 miles, second time was to replace pads and rotor at 2500 miles, now at 3200 miles it still squeaking and groaning bad. It is not normal and is not going away I have owned 21 bikes over 50+ years and the only other one to do this finally locked up the rear wheel before they got it fixed. Stay after it, get them to fix it.
