Bike started fine yesterday, got on it today and the light comes on, but it just clicks and wont start. the headlight doesnt dim or anything and I have good battery. Looked at all the fuses and they are okay, checked the battery connections and they were fine, just this little black box in the fuse panel clicks when I hit the starter button. I even tried replacing the little black box...and still a click and no start. HELP!!
dont know if this will help, mine wouldnt start one day was driven me nuts,it was th on/off switch on th handle bars,i dont ever use it but apparently bumped it somehow, made me feel sorta dumb when i found it finally, but like i said i dont ever use it.
When I turn the on/off switch to on after turning the key on, the fuel pump kicks on. I dont think its that. The clicking dound is coming from the fuse panel. I took them all out and there was slight corrosion, so I sprayed a little bit of WD-40 on it and put all the fuses back in. My Harley dealer is 45 miles away and my trailer is getting upgrades. I was hoping I could fix it myself, but I guess not.
That clicking sound from the fuse panel is probably the starter relay, and if it's clicking, that's a good sign. Now check that damnable molex plug hiding behind the oil lines on the right side that goes to the bendix. Mine backed out on me last month, enough so that it looked like it was plugged in but had backed up enough that it was no longer making connection. Yes, Harley doesn't bother to use electrical grease on all those connections and plugs which of course means they'll corrode in this outdoor environment.
Just because all the lights came on doesn't mean squat. Take the battery out and have it load tested or have the dealer tow it in. With 500 miles, I'll bet you big bucks the battery is toast.
Be sure to check the battery ground to the frame...........95% of electical problems are faulty grounds...........and you stated that alot of the fuses and such had corrosion on them
