I am having trouble getting the correct manual for the sporty i am rebuilding. From the frame Type XL/2 ,Model XL1200S, Vin 05/96. It has mag wheels, piggy back rear shocks, adjustable front forks, twin front brakes. Is there a specific model i need ask for. Haynes sent me some pics but the specifics i mentioned are different. Any help appreciated.

If you have the vin call harley they will tell you.
but it sounds like you may have an xr or last owner did upgrades

Has it got dual plug heads?

The HD service manual may be available to order from your dealer.

Surdyke has it available to order.

1995-1996 XL Models Service Manual
Part number 99484-96

I think the XL1200S model was introduced in 1996, I'm not sure if it is completely covered in the part number above.

I did see a 1997 Service manual on ebay, it shows the XL1200S 1997 model on the cover-

Thanks for that. i put in the info to the H-D portal. Its a 1996 sportster 1200 Sport (XL1200S). On the attached e.bay manual it is the top right picture. Twin disc, mag wheels, piggy back rear shocks. I will give this info to Haynes/ Clymer, Harley manual pretty dear.

Skip the Haynes manual and spring for the Harley manual. No comparison in info and data.
