Default Fuel starvation?

Just finished up my 883 to 1200 upgrade.
bike has straight pipes from previous owner. I added a hi flo pod filter.
So. Rejetted to 48 slow jet and 180 main jet.
now, after a few miles at highway speeds,, it sputters and dies. Restarts after a few minutes

Im Thinking fuel starvation. will too large of a main jet cause this?

48 jet is too much fuel for a 1200. Try a 46 jet. The larger the jet, the more fuel is delivered. Jetting RICHER is NOT fuel starvation. Check the coloring of your spark plugs.

Default Ignition Module...

Rebuilt carburetor. Idles fine.
Ran great on short, couple of mile ride..
so decided to take it on the road for a longer test..
Sure enough, after about 30 minutes it dies.
wait several minutes then I'm back on the road. Ignition module?
Contacted S&S Cycles for help, since thats whose upgrade I used..
They said to upgrade ignition module to one that is tunable. Any recommendations out there?

What year is your bike? Some years had ignition modules in the timing nosecone and failed due to heat. Sounds like that's your problem.

48 pilot is more than you need, most of us use a 45.

My recent 1250 upgrade is using a 45 pilot jet, 190 main jet, and idle mix set at 3 1/8 turns out. At 1100 miles, plugs look good:

John
2001 883 hugger.
I ended up using the 45 slow that was in the rebuild kit, but kept the 180 main.

I think 2001 is one of the years with the defective ignition modules. Maybe 98-03 was the years of usage.

If it runs OK for 30 minutes, I'd suspect a clogged fuei filter.

Bikes dying once hot usually point to ignition failure, not fuel issue. If it was fuel starvation you'd notice much sooner. With the petcock off on my CV I'll get like 3 blocks before it dies.

Most common failure when the bike is hot is the ignition module, under the nose cone depending on your year. What year is it? Are you doing the break-in miles now, or are those done already? If 86-03, did you retard the ignition module? If 04+ did you get a flash tune done?

First 100 miles of break-in is done. Trying to get to the 500 mile mark to do oil change.
It's an '01, and No I didn't retard the timing.
S&S Cycles say i should upgrade ignition to a tunable model.

Well, let’s finish this thread.
It seems I fell into the tunnel vision trap.
It was a fuel starvation problem caused by me kinking the fuel line under the carb area.

I was so focused on it being something I did wrong on the upgrade that I failed to check the basics.
