Default How to remove swing arm/bolt from sportster?

Hi everyone,

I have a 1971 Sportster XLCH that I am building. It's been stripped to bare frame, and I am spraying the frame with epoxy paint. I need to remove the swing arm to finish applying the paint, but am having problems removing the swing arm because of the swing arm bolt.

I have the factory manual and it says:

"remove pivot bolt and lock washer from rear fork. Rear fork can now be disassembled from frame."

In my pictures, the frame is upside down. This is the right side with the bolt head.

This is the left side with the other side of the bolt.

When I turn the bolt, the (above picture) it just spins. I took a rubber mallet and hitting the bolt from the side in the above picture pushes out the bolt. See below picture.

So do I just hammer it out from the other side, or will something "Bad" happen? Any help would be greatly appreciated

If It were me doing this I would soak in PB Blaster for a while then tap that bolt out using a stiff rod, I would probably try my dead blow first and if that doesn't move it then steel hammer.

Good luck!
