Hello everyone, so I'm a complete beginner when it comes to bikes but I'm really excited to get in to the harley scene and start customizing a bike. I've decided to pick myself up a new iron 1200 in the spring and make it my own. There's quite a few things I'd like to change on the bike and the seat being one of them. I really want to go with a solo spring seat and I've found some really nice kits. My confusion is coming from some videos where after the seat is removed some sportsters have a large box, which I'm assuming is an ecu/ecm?? But not all have it mounted on the rear fender under the seat. Is this a model year thing and if so does it effect the newest models?
That's going to really create an issue beyond a bolt on solution. Thanks for your help in advance, I've just been hovering and day dreaming. 6 months is going to be a long wait before I can get started.
It is the ECM. Your bike also has some DIY additional wiring.
I think the ECM stayed on the mudguard until 2014 when it was moved to under the side cover in front of the battery. Also in 2014 the complete fuse box and relays was done away with.
If you get creative you might find a way to move it there.
