I didn't take the time to read the other posts here, but here is my thoughts on this.
I have State Farm on everything, and I did initially on the bike, but they really don't wanna insure motorcycles, so I didn't renew that policy, and even my State Farm Agent said, that was probably a good move.
I don't like the politics of Progressive. If you can't listen to the current politicians and think of this insurance co name, and get the idea, then...don't worry about it.
Most importantly. I had insurance with GEICO way back when they first started offering insurance to non government employees....Bottom line....if GEICO was my only choice for insurance, I'd sell all of the cages and the bike, and buy horses. GEICO SUCKS!!!
I'm with Markel. www.bike-line.com I really can't tell ya if they're good or not. They have good rates, and I like the fact that you can document your additions to the bike with them, and have the customization insured. But until you have a claim, you really never know.
I know people who have had bad relations with all the insurance companies listed and each one of them will say don't get this insurance, sucks or don't get this insurance, they screwed me over after an accident and all other kinds of reasons. Then I'll have people who had positive experiences with those same companies.
Personally, unless the company had a consistent and ongoing bad reputation then I will go with anyone that gives me full coverage at the lowest price and I do find that you can have an insurance company that may be the cheapest on one vehicle you have, but then be the most expensive on a different vehicle you have, so you may end up having two different insuarances for two vehicles.
I also have Geico for the cage and Progressive for the bike (non-Harley). Different coverages for different needs. I've had Geico for various cages with various claims over the last 20 years (both myself and the ex),including two total losses, and settled a lawsuit relating to one of the losses (ex-wife pulled out in highway traffic...guy that hit her was driving an under-insuredborrowed car under revocation of license...wife's fault though). Geico has always treated me fairly, and my rates haven't shot up significantly. Butcomparing the two for identical coverage, I almost choked when I got the Geico quote, even with a multi-vehicle discount. I'll stay withProgressiveforthe bike.
To be fair, though, I had MCI as a long distance carrier for almost 15 years (remember them?)and NEVER had a problem with them...except ONCE. That was enough to sour me on them for good. The point of that is, if Geico has ever screwed you in the past, by all means stay away from them. I would.
Got State Farm as full coverage on my truck, house, fourwheeler, Sportster, and some Life Ins policies. Haven't had a claim in a long, long time on anything. (Knocking on Wood). I've had them for over 15 years now. They have always treated me very well when I did have a claim.
so ezryder gets mad at the insurance company that was not responsible for the accident not the driver that hit him and did not pay the premiums how is that the companies fault?, yeah i work for the company and deal with rocket scientists like this everyday, i have an idea don't pay the power/phone/cable and see what happens
Hmmm, I'm actually paying over $500/yr full coverage through Progressive and that was the lowest for my 07 883 Custom. I suppose that is because it is a combination of being a new bike and that I am a first time motorcycle rider.
Liabilty only insurance would of been about $240/yr
How old are you?
Married or single? Do you have a good credit history?
Any accidents?
Traffic tickets?
Are you paying in one lump amount for the year or monthly?
All these have dramatic effects on insurance premiums; believe it or not your credit history, lack of one, or bad credit history can havea major impact on premiums.
