I don't know anything about the 1200s, but Clymer has a service-repair-maintenance manual entitled Harley Davidson Sportster Evolution*1991-2003, which lists details about your model. I have a 2000 Sportster 1200 and I have found the manual very handy. You can get this manual at most Motorcycle shops. I hope this helps.

Mike, I have a 2000 Sportster S too. Awesome bike, Iwent from a GSXR-750 to this bike and I love it. Here is what I can tell you about the bike versus other Sportster models: Dual plug heads (2 per cylinder vs. 1 per cylinder on other models,) Dual front brakes with floating caliper front and rear (awesome stopping power,) Fully adjustable front and rear suspension, black powder coated exhaust. I'm sure there are probably a few other difference that I am unaware of as well but I hope this helps. The dual plug heads and the ignition set up on these bikes really give them a nice bump in power. I run all day with my buddies that ride BigTwins. You got yourself a good bike. Enjoy it.
