I'll be very suprised if its not included in the Haynes Manual. Possibly its in a table either within the chapter or at the foront or rear of the manual.

However, having done a number of searches in Google for "2000 harley sportster 1200 compression ratio" without the speach marks, I believe the correct ratio for that years model is 9.7:1. However, you may wish to do some similar searches yourself first.

Compression tests are measured in PSI not ratios.

Here are the numbers from an 04 Service manual, they should be close.

883cc - 125-140 psi
1200cc- 200-225 psi
With no more than a 10% difference between cylinders.

cHarley is without a shadow of a doubt the expert in comparison with me, so ignore what I said above.

I've just about mastered filling the perol tank, but still struggle with paying for the fuel. You can laugh, but its roughly $8.30 USD a gallon over here.

Aren't the motors different between a 2000 and 2004? I thought that they changed in 2003?

Yes, the 04 got the Buell Thunderstorm heads, but I believe the compression ratio, 9.7-1 is the same, so the psi should be in the same ballpark.

My 01 1200 custom with stock heads 67cc and pistons had a compression of 150 psi with D cams. Then I put SE heads 62cc on it and with D cams compression was 170 psi. Then I installed W cams and compression was 190 psi.

At 1250cc, 10.5-1 pistons and with stock SE heads 62cc and 536 cams compression was 205 psi. With ported SE heads with 64 cc chambers now and 536 cams the compression is 195 psi.

Hope this helps

This is start from Harley's repair manual, the bike has 9.0-1 compression. Checking compression with compression gauge the cylinders should both read over 120 and be with in 10LBS's of each other.
You guys with the newer Sporties need to stop GUESSING at what the specs are for the older bikes.
