I bought an aftermarket ignition. For my 2000 sportster 1200 custom. Thing is the leads off the ignition the colors don’t match my harness.
the ignition has a red, blue and green. All I have left after tying in what I know on the harness is the photos listed below. Aftermarket ignition key switch.
This is all like it was wired when I got the bike. Just doctored and taped back up. So left to right. You will see the first wire is solid red. And then next Is a red with gray stripe. Next is a red with black stripe. Then you have a solid black cable. And the white one is 3 different grounds tied to the one.
Houston, we have a problem. 1st, does the ignition switch work? Yes - leave it alone. 2nd, do you have instructions for the new ignition system? 3rd, do you have a wiring diagram of your bike? 4th, what ignition system do you have? Aftermarket ignition connections go to the ignition coil. Use a volt meter and see which coil wire gets 12 vdc when ya turn on the switch, THAT powers the ignition system. The instructions should tell ya which wire goes to the VOES, tach and the other side of the coil. Yer wiring is hacked. Ya gotta trace the wires to see where they go. Let's see the ignition yer trying to put in.

That’s the ignition. No instructions. I do have a diagram and so far by tracking them down they are accordingly. I just am confused as to how to read it when it comes to the last few wires.
Sorry for my input. You said "I bought an aftermarket ignition." Should have been a little more specific in the wording . . . like ignition SWITCH. Have fun.
