Transmission...need help
1998...1200C...12,000 miles. Dealer said possible main bearing in trans.
is going. Has anyone replaced this? What's the difficulty in doing it yourself? If dealer did yours what amI looking at in cost?

I had a 96 1200 that I had to replace the main shaft bearing. It was singing real loud. Got so hot itturned the trans oil black. I didn't have the necessary tools to try it my self. The dealer gave me a worse case price of $650. They only had to replace the belt sprocked end bearing which cost $350 (most was labor). Reason it went out.....there is a small hole in which the pri/trans oil migrates between the pri and the trans. Too little oil or too thick oil could starve the trans a little. Some good news...if you owned a 04 of later (rubber mounted), you would have to split the engine cases to replace the bearing.
