Gas tank coatings advice
I took it all apart again. The problem with the stuff that was getting through the screen is it seemed to be causing the float to stick. When I would look in the bowl there was hardly any gas. When I drained the tank there were big chunks of something similar to paint that had been applied before I got the bike. I spent a couple of days soaking in white vinegar and shaking roofing nails around in the tank. As it turns out the roofing nails were not the best idea I ever had. It took forever to get them all out. The filler neck is not the low point of the upside down tank. That meant I had to get all of the nails out where the petcock used to be. After I got that all done I put an open hose in there from my lawn pump and let it run for a couple of hours sloshing it around every once in a while. I added in inline clear filter so I can see if I am picking stuff up. I think it's clean for now. I'm pretty old so the tank will probably hast longer than I will. I looked at a new tank. My bike has a pearl paint that is pretty to me. Although I am more about riding than looking good I still didn't want to pay to try to match that paint. I just didn't have the heart to get a tank and paint it with a can of Rustoleum. That's just me. I appreciate the advice. I was headed toward the coating. Im glad you folks talked me out of it.
