Sounds to me like you have too much fluid in the primary. Overfilling will cause slippage.

The primary on your bike should only take about 25 ounces, but check the owner's manual to be certain.

the problem is still happening the bike jerks when coasting in first gear but when i pull the clutch it stops. i filled the primary w 1 qt of trans fluid, i was wondering if it could be that i didnt let a little oil out after i filled it up, or could it be that the carberator needs to be adjusted becuse of the altitude chnage from the mainland to hawaii.

Pull the derby cover, the oil should be just below the level of the cover, about a half inch. sometimes bikes will jerk like that in 1st gear from a loose primary chain. the play in it should be about 3/8" when engine is hot. don't get it to tight.

A full quart in the primary is too much. You are at sea level, the carb should be OK.

Is the procedure for checking the fluid level in the primary as simple as unbolting the derby cover, pulling it off, confirming the level then replacing and bolting the derby cover back on? Are their tips or tricks to know or is it just a simple straight forward operation? Thanks.

Thats bascially what it is just have the bike standing up when you check the oil level you should be able to reuse the o-ring.

Sometimes the square o-ring is a little tricky to hold in place while replacing the derby cover so it's helpful to put some grease in the o-ring channel to hold the ring. Other than that, it isn't difficult. Make sure you have the exact sized torx wrench elst you'll strip the bolt heads.
