Working on friends tanks, been sitting to long empty, there's rust and flaking, was told to use white vinegar, did one round without adding nuts going to do another before adding anything to help break up flaking, my question is has anyone ever used CLR to help with the rust???
Yes, distilled malt vinegar is cheap, here in the UK it is around Ł0.40 for a twenty fluid ounce bottle and it really does work at removing rust from the inside of the tank.
I use distilled vinegar for cleaning the black denim paintwork on my Iron 883, it works just as well as H-D's denim paint cleaner which costs about Ł11.50 a bottle.
Incidentally, Coca-Cola is great for cleaning rust from exhaust pipes due Coke's phosphoric acid content
Vinegar. It will leave spots on your paint if not careful though.
I've been using white vinegar on my denim paintwork for ten years and there's no marks on it yet, it's a simple case of spray on and wipe off, the vinegar isn't on the paint for long enough to do any damage.
I remember many years ago, my great-grandmother used to clean the hard furnishings and windows around her home with white vinegar.
