The fuel tank mounting points are the same on all XL Sportster models from 2004 to 2022 regardless of the tanks capacity.
If you replace a 4.5 gallon tank with a 3.3 gallon tank, the smaller tank is shorter in length than the larger one, so there will be a gap between the rear of the tank and the front of the seat. the rubber breather hose outlet is mounted further forward on the 3.3 gallon tank, so you will have to use a longer hose than the stock hose on your 4.5 gallon tank.

Another consideration is the seat for the 4.5gal tank. You might want to consider a seat made for the 3.3gal tank as the seat nose for the bigger tank sits higher, and with that gap It might look a bit strange.
