Default Conversion question……

I know there are many threads about this but I can’t find the info I’m looking for. I recently bought an 883 that was said to have been converted. The head says 883 but when I put scope down the cylinder to look at piston it is stamped 3.625. It appears to be a standard flat top piston. There is also HH29 stamped on top of piston as well. I did the “stick” measurement and it looks to read as an 883. I’m lost. Any info will be greatly appreciated. It does have an S&S shorty carb on it.

Said to be done and actually been done are 2 different things. Got any paperwork or receipts for parts or work done on it when ya bought it?

No paperwork at all. 2 different people have owned it that I personally know but neither had the conversion done. It was said to be done by original owner. I did the “stick” measurement and it measures what appears to be stock stroke but with the pistons being stamped 3.625 I was thinking possibly a big bore kit was installed. I’m new to the conversion topic so I have no clue.

I did forget to mention the pistons also have “valve relief” or “cups” on the pistons also.

If your talking about an 883 to 1200 or so the stroke is the same. The piston is larger in diameter in a bigger hole.

It's possible the combustion chambers were relieved to lower the compression ratio in order to use flat top pistons. I think the early SE kits had a template for grinding out material from the 883 chamber.
