How about switching everything except the swing arm: Wheel with bearings, axle, wheel spacers, axle adjusters?

Do you think that combination would work with the front sliders or rear swing arm? Sorta doubtful on that a lot.

YES ... Simple and Easy. Use (1) proper sized bearing shim Harley offers under the Rotor side bearing and the 2008 center spacer sleeve (you can reuse your original 08 1200C or buy another)

That is how Harley can offer a Single Part# Rear wheel that covers multiple years ... including the ones in question.

See Example Below for "00-later" Sportster 16" rear wheel sold through Harley "Parts and Accessories" (old catalog)

You could use two of these 5205-2RS bearings in the 2005 wheel with your stock 2008 axle.

The 0.4mm difference in width is neither here nor there.
