Starter continuously running
2017 sportster 48 (no starter relay on this model)
My starter engages and runs continuously as soon as the battery is connected. Ive been pulling the main fuse to kill power to the bike. I can hear the solenoid move(single solid click) as I put the fuse back in, so Im leaning toward the solenoid not being stuck. I pulled the plug going into the starter and it has power even with the ignition and kill switch off. (See images). I would imagine it should not be live until these switches are on, and the start button is pressed.
my question is where to go from here? In my head, The starter receives a signal from the BCM so its likely the issue. I also have wondered if the right hand control module (where the start button is) is defective, and sending power when it should not be. If the right hand module is bad would the BCM automatically pass on the signal or should it stop it until all conditions are met?(ignition-on, switch-on, start button-on)
Thoughts?
please forgive my terminology, electrical work has always stumped me.
Is the ignition off when this happens?
There's a starter relay of some sort somewhere, you need to find it.
Check your manual or follow the wire you pulled off the starter, It'll be on the other end.
L2 Is labeled Starter Solenoid Power.
I'm sure surprised

Ive been unable to find a relay so far as it is difficult to chase wired without removing the tank. I read on other threads that the starter solenoid on newer models are controlled by a signal sent directly from the BCM. Ill see if I can find out more when I get home from work today

Red and Black wire goes from starter solenoid to Pin L2 for the BCM

I couldn't find a start button in that diagram thou its gotta have one ___ don't it
Might try talking with a dealer or indy if you can and ask if they have seen this before.
Google was no help when I searched.
You might leave the solenoid wire disconnected at the starter then you can hook things back up and trace some of it anyway.
