Default Tons of oil pressure=explosion

I built me an oil filter housing and hardlined it on my 79 ironhead got it on hooked up and I start her up, 35- 45 seconds later the oil filter exploded so I'm thinking, defective oil filter. I thread in another oil filter and 15 seconds in the oil line explodes now, I'm pissed and a little concerned so I take the damn thing off and go back with just lines and it runs fine. WTH went wrong?

I would guess, the filter you chose has no bypass valve in it. Find one that does.

My first suggestion would be check the lines going to the oil filter, you may have them reversed. I did that on a 75 Sportster I had and it blew the cap right off the oil tank.

You plumbed it backwards, and used a filter with an anti drainback valve.

Hardline, as in rigid copper tubing . . . on an Ironhead Sportster. Bad idea. I'm guessing yer 79 rejected your modification. NO rigid oil lines on my 77.
