What’s the best aftermarket forward controls? Given oem are ridiculously expensive. I’m not looking for anything fancy as far as looks I don’t mind the stock brake and shifter appearance.
I am more concerned with quality and stuff. Like are they well made. My concern with eBay and such has anyone had luck with them. I’m really just looking to replace oem brake and shift pedals with black but can’t find them sold separately from a kit. And Harley wants 300+ dollars for the two pieces.
I haven't looked at the kits but with other HD stuff I have bought there is everything you need but migh have stuff for other versions of bikes. I think they do a good job of making sure you have everything you need.
My local dealer tells me they get quite a few people visiting wanting help fitting 3rd party stuff that appears to not be complete.
I haven't heard of any aftermarket forward controls that have been installed without some kind of modification by the owner, they can foul the front header pipe, the brackets don't fit properly because they are bent at the wrong angle or they come with metric hardware that won't match up wirh H-D's UNC hardware. Many of the kits don't even come with installation instructions or a list of the contents that should be in the kit.
Yes H-D's forward controls are expensive, but they are guarenteed to fit and they come with comprehensive contents list and step by step installation instructions.
Aftermarket forwards are either flimsy junk or big and clunky.
Spend the time and find a nice used factory set on the Bay or the like. You might even have success finding someone that wants to trade mids for forwards as the mids are the current preferred setup.
I rode my 1991 Sporty for 20 plus years with mids, always hated them. Found a real nice used set of HD forwards in bare aluminum, grabbed them fast and they bolted right on as intended by the MoCo. Very happy, just need to be patient, good luck.
