I used Hycote Truck Bed Liner paint on my starter motor cover and cam lifter blocks cover, it matches the H-D wrinkle finish.

I was considering doing that too, then I remembered having used this paint before and decided to try it.

Now I'm trying to decide whether to pull the trigger on a $70 polished stainless bolt kit from Ebay.

I bought a set last year...they were very soft. The first one I tried was for the belt guard, and it bent and snapped. Mission aborted...

I bought the 3 black sets that H-D sells for the majority of the hex bolts...for much more, naturally.

I've no complaints...other than the lighter wallet. But hey, you can say that about most anything H-D...

FWIW...

Hey Larry. I suppose different paints may require different methods but your comment made me go double check my cans.
Been using Krylon wrinkle finish for over 30 years and always followed thier directions. 2-3 heavy coats 5 minutes apart, they state heavy coating required to wrinkle.

Also for black exhaust Stove Brite works great.

My last experience with the Wrinkle paint was many years ago so I may be showing my age ... Did I mention that I cooked the finish in the stove while my gal wasn't home? ....Ride safe

Actually I almost went back and edited my post to include that. Either use oven after spraying or as I often did, warm up part before spraying. That works wonders.

How about some cad plated hex screws, a nice golden accent?

Never thought about caps for the bolts, but I did already buy the SS bolt kit. Hopefully mine is decent quality.
Another idea I was kicking around was trying to electroplate the originals myself, just never got around to doing it.
