Default 95/96 speedometer re calibration

I am reading a lot of conflicting things about the differences in 95 speedometers and 96 speedometers.

I have a 96 but it came with -95 speedometer which I am reading was mechanical. But this is definitely not mechanical.

I am wanting to put a NOS speedo I picked on my bike and wondering if I can recalibrate it for different gearing, if not I'm not going to bother. Some sources say I can and some say I can't. Has anyone done it?

Harley Parts Fitment

To figure out what years fit what parts you can use Ronnies HD, online Parts Finder:

https://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche...nies/showmodel

The part numbers end with the beginning year that part was used.
Look up your year and model and find the Part Number.
The '96 uses the following part number 67290-95, which was used in 1995. A '96 speedometer can be used on a '95.
Calibration is in the ignition module, not the speedometer, so changing speedometers does not change calibration.
These electronic speedometers can be calibrated for different pulleys or tire size with an "add-on" Calibrator.
These are available from many sources, including www.883Sportster.com.

I think 1994 was the last year of the mechanical drive speedo.

This add on is what I was actually meaning to ask about, I just worded it poorly . Thank you!
