With a real pogo seat and 22 PSI in the rear tire, a rigid frame can be rideable and enjoyable for as long as you want to ride her.

The money you might spend to replicate that bike, a real WLA might be easier and a whole lot cooler, just sayin'. Good luck with your project.

I actually already have a softail project that is getting "militarized" to look like a WLA but I miss character of my old hardtail with kickstart. I got rid of my Ducati and was planning to get a Sportster XL1200s to hardtail first and then make the other changes gradually over the next few years. Hardtail, Led Sled kickstarter, Baker 6 speed conversion, then the rest of the bodywork. My old hardtail had the 7" Indian Springs from Indian 741 which were great until I hit a pothole and almost got catapulted off my bike. lol. I have this on my Softail:https://www.wwag.com/en/t-bar-and-po...ftail-40-224#0 "using a short hydraulic shock in place of the factory dampener"

If you're serious about a Sportster 6 speed conversion, you had better call Baker as soon as possible
because it does not appear that they even offer one anymore....

good luck,

I looked for a baker 6 speed 4 or 5 years ago and they were nowhere to be found. You still might be able to find one floating around somewhere though.

Does the Baker 6 work with the Led Sled kicker conversion? Phone calls to both to confirm for sure. But if you build that bike, you NEED the kicker, 6 speed is optional.

Did you call those guys and confirm they actually have physical stock? That is an ancient website. Most of those guys drop ship items and I would be shocked if they actually had them but you never know. I've come up against old out of date websites so many times looking for hard to find parts.

Agreed, I looked up cas4.com and it was last updated in 2021...

OP, good luck with them. I have doubts that they have anything
in stock, rather they do 'drop ship' type selling from suppliers
to your address. Just my opinion though.

Again good luck,

T.

3 bikes on myside of garage and guess which one rides the roughest!

Yep, the center 91 "softail".

I personally, as someone mentioned have run a max of 16psi on all my hardtails since the early 80s. (1 up)

Actually have 2 more hardtails as well, and the old softails never rode as good as a hardtail that is set up correctly. Up until they finally went to a wide rear tire. And the newest 2018 and up softails with the new single shock rivals the touring bikes in ride quality.

The softail old softail is too heavy to run pressures so low and again the 1st generation was merely an overweight hardtail in my opinion.

Sorry don't know about your 2 frame choices.

My red chop has a modified Paughco frame, as I removed the ugly side gussets and installed inner support.
It is a very light molly tube frame that you can pick up with 1 finger. My other 2 hardtail HD frames takes both hands and arms. My heavy 128" touring bike 130ish hp & torque can't catch the light hot 80" Shovel chopper if she takes off 1st. Rolling sure....

We NEED MORE HARDTAILS ENTHUSIASTS to make the world look better!

Niece on bike and sister would kill me.🙃
