I personally do my body work best I can and rattle can it for riding it a season before tearing down to paint.
Paint can still look great for 20 years and not so hard to remove later.
if powder coating do body work with Labmetal or something of the sort thats good to powerdercoat over.
I think it is best to ride it 1st before final colors as you can add tabs for specific pipes and make adjustments before itnis final.
May have to mod for different seat, controls and who knows....
